JOB DESCRIPTION
 
The Senior Accountant in this position will work closely with company ownership and is expected to assist them by providing necessary financial statements, process payroll, manage accounts payable and perform month end invoicing. Attention to detail, integrity, and a thorough understanding of good business practice is necessary to successfully fulfill this role. Experience with payroll is required. The Senior Accountant in this position can anticipate an evolution of duties throughout their career as the company transitions to the next generation of leadership. This will include the adoption of new technologies and work processes.

WAGE RANGE: $70K - $90K PER YEAR (depending upon experience)                      LOCATION: WILLMAR

SCHEDULE: SHIFT 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM MONDAY - FRIDAY

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Must successfully complete and pass applicable pre-employment background check
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements and demands of the position 
EDUCATION 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required
  • CPA certification is not required, but preferred 
EXPERIENCE 
  • 5 years or more of relevant work experience in Accounting, Payroll and Billing 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and securely maintain private information
  • Knowledge of accounting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of intermediate to advanced computer skills, specifically Word and Excel
  • Ability to listen well and communicate clearly, verbally and in writing
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask
  • Ability to problem solve, prioritize tasks, and manage time well
  • Ability to complete tasks with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Willingness to work extra time and/or do extra tasks on certain days as needed
  • Ability to work with and support co-workers and team members
  • Capability of financial analysis 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
CASH MANAGEMENT TASKS
  • Reconciliation of multiple bank accounts 
FINANCIAL STATEMENT & CORPORATE TAX RETURN PREPARATION DUTIES
  • Prepare spreadsheets to assist in recording revenue and expenses on financial statements
  • Prepare quarterly financial statements
  • Compile and maintain fixed asset listings
  • Review corporate tax return for accuracy after preparation by public accounting firm
  • Process payment of quarterly tax estimates 
OTHER TAX RELATED TASKS
  • File monthly sales tax returns
  • File monthly county solid waste management tax returns
  • File quarterly federal excise tax return
  • File annual heavy highway vehicle use tax return 
ACCOUNTS PAYABLE DUTIES
  • Weekly review of payables verifying General Ledger codes and expense versus capitalization
  • Review refund checks for customers (once per month)
  • Ensure each vendor has a W-9 on file
  • Gather required information for 1099’s each year 
MONTHLY INVOICING TASKS
  • Create invoices monthly in Routeware software system
  • Prepare month end reports associated with invoicing 
PAYROLL DUTIES
  • Process payroll for approximately 145 employees
  • Review employee hours for accuracy and completeness before submitting payroll to outside accountant for processing
  • Review PTO hours used to ensure they have been accrued are accruing at the correct rate
  • Provide written notices to employees regarding pay adjustments
  • Maintain spreadsheets that record Section 125 deductions, Flex plans, Health Savings Accounts, etc.
  • Remit 401(k) contributions to retirement service provider
  • Remit HSA contributions to benefit provider
  • Calculate taxable fringe benefits to be reported on W-2’s
  • Gather data for Section 125 non-discrimination testing
  • Gather data for annual Workers Compensation audits and review audit for accuracy
  • Gather information required for Affordable Care Act reporting 
401(K) / PROFIT SHARING TASKS
  • Provide required notices to employees regarding profit sharing enrollment and other IRS mandated notices
  • Prepare spreadsheet calculating annual profit sharing and 401(k) match contributions
  • Provide notification to terminated employees about distribution options
  • Gather data as requested by auditor during annual audit of retirement plan 
MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES
  • Oversee the writing off of bad debts
  • File proof of claim forms when customers file for bankruptcy
  • Gather data for annual general liability insurance audits
  • Complete other job-related duties as assigned or apparent
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THIS POSITION 
  • Ability to safely push, pull, bend, twist, sit, stand, and lift objects weighing 25 pounds
  • Ability to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.)
  • Ability to hear at a level sufficient to communicate effectively with others
