The Director of Warehouse Operations will lead and oversee all aspects of warehouse operations across multiple U.S. locations. This role is responsible for ensuring operational excellence and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The Director will manage staff members, build high-performing teams, and implement best practices to support company growth and customer satisfaction.

Our headquarters, manufacturing facility, and primary distribution facility is located in Willmar, Minnesota, with 19 regional distribution centers located throughout the U.S.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee warehouse operations across multiple warehouse facilities, ensuring productivity, accuracy, and on-time order fulfillment.
  • Travel to each Northern “employed” warehouse at least one time per year. Assess warehouse operations to ensure the warehouse is running effectively and abiding by all company policies and procedures. Make suggestions and follow up as needed.
  • Develop and standardize warehouse operations systems by determining product handling and storage requirements; developing, implementing, enforcing, and evaluating policies and procedures; developing processes for receiving product, equipment utilization, inventory organization, and shipping.
  • Drive a culture of teamwork, accountability, safety, and excellence in service across all sites.
  • Manage staff by selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees. Coordinate staff activities, deadlines, and annual goals.
  • Lead safety initiatives, audits, and safety training programs. Serve as Safety Director of the Company’s Safety Committee.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to warehouse locations across multiple states. Travel approximately 40% of the time.
  • 10+ years of warehouse or distribution operations leadership experience, with at least 5 years of experience managing multi-site operations.
  • Leadership and management experience. Ability to lead people and get results through others, develop and build teams, and coordinate the work and activities of others.
  • Previous experience in assessing, developing, implementing, and executing warehouse programs.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have excellent writing skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical data, safety rules, government regulations, and procedures manuals.
  • Excellent computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office products: Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP platforms, and distribution technologies.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and power material handling equipment.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to drive a motor vehicle, possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
