DIESEL HEAVY TRUCK MECHANIC
Mechanics in this position will be trained to provide superior maintenance on both diesel equipment and, at some locations, on our growing fleet of compressed natural gas trucks. The Diesel Mechanic will work with other experienced diesel mechanics using a high level of skill, modern maintenance practices and technologies to include hydraulics, electrical and diagnostics. All while following established procedures to accomplish daily tasks and grow in skills and knowledge. WAGE RANGE: $21.00 - $25.00 HOURLY (depending upon experience) LOCATION: LOCAL SHOP
OPENING DATE: OPEN UNTIL FILLED JOB TYPE: FULL TIME
SCHEDULE: 1st SHIFT 5:00 AM – 2:00 PM TYPICALLY MONDAY – FRIDAY SHIFT LENGTH VARIES BY DAY
2ND SHIFT 1:00 PM – 10:00 PM TYPICALLY MONDAY - FRIDAY SHIFT LENGTH VARIES BY DAY
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States
- Must successfully complete and pass applicable pre-employment background check, driving record, physical and drug screening
- Ability to perform the physical requirements and demands of the position
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- 2-year Degree in Automotive, Diesel, or Heavy Truck Maintenance including computer diagnostics and hydraulics is preferred
- No prior work experience or automotive education is required, but is preferred
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered adequate
- CDL is preferred but not required (We will provide training to interested candidates)
- Ability to operate large, heavy-duty vehicles
- Ability to drive safely
- Ability to work a consistent work schedule, as punctuality is required
- Ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing
- Ability to operate a tablet / basic computer skills
- Ability to learn new processes

- Work under limited supervision following written instructions and established procedures to accomplish assigned tasks
- Perform preventive maintenance services and inspections
- Diagnose, repair, and adjust vehicles and equipment as needed; including electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems
- Utilize vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs
- Review, complete, or assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports
- Estimate time and material costs on vehicle repairs and requisitions new parts
- Perform all work within Standard Repair Times
- Complete required paperwork utilizing the fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times
- Conduct safety checks on vehicles
- Assist senior mechanics in the completion of project work
- Perform emergency service calls when trucks breakdown
- Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask
- Ability to problem solve, prioritize tasks, and manage time well
- Ability to work with and support co-workers and team members
- Ability to complete tasks with accuracy and attention to detail
- Willingness to work extra time and/or do extra tasks on certain days as needed
- Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures
- Complete other job-related duties as assigned or apparent
- Ability to safely lift objects weighing 30 pounds
- Ability to safely push, pull, bend, twist, sit, stand, and frequently lift objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift objects up to 75 pounds
- Ability to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.)
- Ability to hear at a level sufficient to communicate effectively with others
- Will be exposed to physical occupational risks including cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc.

- Repair/Maintenance Shop and/or driving a video/GPS monitored vehicle – environments may often include dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes and elements for most of the work day
- Must reliably commute to the designated work location. May also relocate before beginning employment.

- Ability to provide or acquire a current Class A or Class B Minnesota CDL (Commercial Drivers’ License) with an air-brake endorsement or permit
