Assistant Service Manager
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Meets and greets customers at the counter and takes customer phone calls
- Asks questions to determine work needed and to prospect for additional work on the machine
- Records and clearly relays details and information to Service Manager and technicians
- Quotes service work and repairs
- Contacts and updates customers with ongoing repair status and cost estimates
- Schedules pickups and deliveries
- Assigns diagnostic and repair jobs on customer equipment according to technician skills and knowledge
- Assigns, schedules, and tracks re-conditioning of used equipment
- Works with the Sales Department to manage internal work orders
- Assigns, schedules, and tracks set-up of new equipment
- Tracks and schedules PIPS
- Improves technician efficiencies by keeping them on task and coaching as needed
- Provides diagnostic assistance for technicians
- Assists technicians in looking up parts as needed and pre-orders parts for upcoming jobs
- Supervises technicians for complete and thorough work order documentation on diagnostics and repairs performed, parts used, and time worked
- Helps retrieve and stage equipment for service or repairs
- Schedules trucks for DOT inspections, maintains permits, manages individual truck binders, and maintains
- vehicle inspection logs in each truck
- Covers for Service Manager as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned by manager
- Maintains shop cleanliness and ensures technicians keep work areas tidy
- Maintains condition of vehicles, inventory, tools, and equipment
- Keeps shop tools organized
- Maintains a clean, professional personal appearance
- Reports to work on time
- Employs good time management skills and the ability to work independently
- Demonstrates good work ethic
- Communicates effectively one-on-one and in groups
- Maintains a positive, professional working relationship and works cooperatively with co-workers and management
- Exhibits a constant commitment to customer service
- Promotes the service department to customers including service work, inspections, and parts
- Completes training required for the development of skills and knowledge
- Assists technicians with training such as forklift certification as needed
- Maintains current knowledge of John Deere and competitive products
- Follows all safety rules and regulations
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- One or more years’ experience or technical college degree or certification preferred
- Experience managing technicians in a shop setting
- Experience with repair, service, and maintenance
- Experience with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Experience operating vehicles, tools, and equipment
- Experience with basic computer functions
- Experience using Service ADVISOR™ or other computer based diagnostic tools preferred
- Able to lift, bend, and carry
- Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record required
- CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) preferred
